Overview

What is Metal-Free Dentistry?

Metal-free dentistry replaces traditional metal-based restorations — amalgam fillings, metal crowns, PFM bridges — with ceramic, zirconia and composite alternatives. These materials are biologically inert, meaning they do not react with the body, cause no grey discolouration of gum tissue and contain no mercury. At Dentist & Dentist, all new restorations are metal-free as standard.

The Process

How It Works

01
Assessment

Existing metalwork is evaluated for condition, integrity and aesthetic impact. Removal is only recommended when clinically indicated.

02
Safe Removal (if applicable)

Old amalgam or metal restorations are removed following safe protocols to minimise exposure to metal particles.

03
Ceramic or Zirconia Restoration

Teeth are restored with tooth-coloured composite, ceramic inlays, or zirconia crowns — matched precisely to your natural teeth.

04
Final Polish

Restorations are polished to a smooth, stain-resistant finish.

Common Questions

FAQs

Should I remove all my old metal fillings?

Not necessarily. Stable metal restorations with no cracks or decay underneath do not need immediate removal. Dr. Omar will advise based on the condition of each restoration.

Is amalgam removal safe?

Yes, when done with proper protocol — rubber dam, high-speed evacuation and sectional removal to minimise mercury vapour. Dr. Omar follows these protocols.

Are ceramic fillings as strong as metal?

Modern ceramic composite materials are highly durable and bond directly to tooth structure — often making the tooth stronger than a metal filling, which requires more removal of natural tooth.
