Veneers can last 10–15 years with the right care. Our clinical team shares daily habits, foods to avoid and the one thing most patients forget.
Porcelain and zirconia veneers are designed to be durable and long-lasting — but they're not indestructible. The good news: maintaining them is simpler than most patients expect. Follow these habits and your veneers will look as good at year twelve as they did at week one.
Veneers are bonded to your natural teeth, and the tooth underneath still needs protecting. Brush twice daily with a non-abrasive toothpaste — avoid whitening toothpastes, which contain micro-abrasives that can dull the surface of porcelain over time. Floss gently along the gum line at each veneer.
Veneers are strong, but they can chip under excessive force. Avoid biting fingernails, chewing ice, or using your teeth to open packaging. If you grind your teeth at night (bruxism), a night guard is essential — unmanaged grinding is the leading cause of premature veneer failure.
Regular checkups. Veneers need to be professionally reviewed every 6–12 months — not because they require special treatment, but because a dentist can identify early wear, check the margins, and catch any issues before they become problems. Many patients with veneers skip checkups thinking their "cosmetic teeth" are fine. They're not a substitute for dental health maintenance.
“Veneers are an investment. The patients who get 15+ years from them are the ones who treat them exactly like they treat their natural teeth — with consistent, simple care.”
